Suggest Treatment For A Hard Bump On The Penile Shaft

I have had a small hard bump under the skin of the shaft of my penis for over a month, it has never hurt or bothered me or changed at all, until early this afternoon I noticed it was swollen red and inflamed.. It looked like a large zit because of the white pus formed at the top, I squeezed the pus out and the lump stayed the same size got more red and irritated and is now causing a lot of pain. It remains hard like a small pebble under the skin. I don t know what to do? Leave it? Have it checked out? Could it be harmful?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a hard bump on penile shaft for over a month. It is presently swollen and inflamed. You squeezed it and now it is painful. Factors can lead to such bumps are allergic reactions, ingrown hair, contact with irritants, STDs, irritation, sweating, tight clothing, underlying medical conditions among others (cancer).

You are suggested not to touch, pop or squeeze it. You should take care of your hygiene. Avoid masturbating or any type of sexual activity for a couple of days. Get clinically examined by a Urologist. Get STD tests done, if positive you will be treated accordingly with antibiotics and antivirals. Presently, you can apply Soframycin or Bacitracin ointment on the area affected for relief. Take acetaminophen, one SOS to reduce pain and inflammation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
