Hello,
All the babies are born with that hole called foramen ovale apertum. It is very important for the babies while are in the mother's
uterus and some weeks after coming in this life.
With the weeks passing, it closes itself, but can also remain unclosed.
It should be followed by cardiac
ultrasound. If it persists and is not small, can cause damage in the heart chambers that can lead to
heart failure, the closer of the defect should be considered.
Based on the age of the person, it may be done in open heart surgery, or in a mini-invasive procedure with a special device by a hemodinamic cardiologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
