Hello,

You have history of arthritis, hepatitis C and also have your gall bladder taken out. You are anemic and presently you want to improve your liver. You are suggested to avoid intake of alcohol, do not smoke and stay away from any type of addiction. Stay adequately hydrated, take quality sleep. Good sleep helps liver repair. Take Liver tonics (Liv 52) or include food that is good for the liver. Food good for the liver are papaya (both raw and ripe), sugarcane juice (if you are not diabetic), grapefruit (it is an antioxidant and protects liver naturally), grapes, pear, nuts, olive oil, etc.

Prefer to take boiled food with a dash of olive oil over oily spicy food that may trigger liver problems. Avoid taking trans fat, full fat dairy products, red meat, msg (Chinese salt). Instead take fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans and cereals that are well cooked. Avoid taking anything raw for a couple of months. Take food rich in iron, magnesium and protein (lean meat, small fish, vegetable protein). Always take boiled water after cooling. Get your liver function tests done after 3 months, it should improve.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
