Suggest Treatment For A Painful Bruise On The Arm

Hello. A week ago I torn my bicep tendon playing baseball. I am 68 years old. In the past week I have been icing it and taking ibuprophen for the first few days and bruising has occured on my arm from the bicep almost down to my writst. Is this normal for this type of injury? Or is there another process taking place?

Hi

Bruising following even mild injury is common. As age progresses, bruising occurs more commonly because the skin becomes thinner, muscle and fat also become thinner which causes less cushioning to blood vessels leading to easy injury.

Continue icing and pain killers.Hot compresses may be required to allow free distribution of blood.

Bruising in the form of tiny dots or any bleeding should be immediately treated. In such cases, platelet count, bleeding and clotting time should be tested.

Hope that was helpful.Let me know if i can assist you further.

Regards
