Suggest Treatment For A Painful Rash At The Site Of An Insect Bite

I believe I was bitten by some sort of insect about a week ago. I left for the beach shortly after. About a week ago I developed a welt at the site of the bite. The welt continued to spread over the course of the week, but there was no pain, itching or fever associated with it. Yesterday, it started to hurt. Do I need to see my doctor?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history of insect bite rash, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

If problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

Thanks.
