Suggest Treatment For A Painful White Spot In The Throat

I have had a sore throat for 6 days and I have had a throat culture that came back negative for strep. I started a 5 day z-pak on Tuesday. Now I have noticed a white spot in the back of my mouth on the right side right above my widsom tooth. It is very sore.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your short and specific question.
The white sore spot that developed after throat infection wherein strep test was negative indicate this to be an aphthoid ulcer that develops due to loss of integrity of the oral mucosa.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult your Doctor or an ENT Surgeon to get the diagnosis confirmed.
Although there is no specific treatment for such ulcers the following management under the guidance of your Doctor can help you get well soon:
Multivitamins with mineral and trace elements as these are necessary for proper healing and increasing the integrity of oral mucosa.
Local application of anesthetic get helps with pain.
Oral steroid sometimes help to reduce the pain.
Antibiotics may not be necessary if there is no infection.
Take care.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. T Chandrakant,
ENT & General Surgeon
