Suggest Treatment For A Rash On Head And Low Temperature
My 6 month old grandson was getting very high temp 39 took to hospital had many test and Lumber Injection incase menigitus, also had a slight rash (spots) on his head. They had real trouble trying to get blood, very hard with his veins being so small, also was in hospital over night with high temp, U T I. four weeks ago, has been up and down ever since. but very grissly wants to be held, but now has a LOW temperature, can you please give us any ideas what this could be. Much Appreciated.
Hello and welcome to HCM, There is a history of meningitis and urinary tract infection (UTI) in your grandson. Both infections are bacterial in origin and a high temperature is expected in case of bacterial infection. I believe that antibiotics have been given to control these infections. It will be difficult to give injectables to the baby because the veins will be very thin. However, fall in temperature has to be viewed with suspicion. Falling or low temperature can be due to hypothermia. Fall in temperature can be due to emergence of infection or inability of antibiotics to control the infection. Thus, a clinical assessment and relevant investigations are required by your pediatrician are required. I suggest you to consult your pediatrician at the earliest.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
