Suggest Treatment For A Weak Heart In An Elderly Patient?

Much husband was told, much to our surprise, he had suffered a heart attack and his heart functioning at 20 percent. He is 77 and suffers with NPH for last 9 years. He has a shunt for NPH. What kind of prognosis are we possibly looking at. The doctor said his heart cannot take anymore stress. I am not sure what kind of activity level if any he should have and not sure what our future is like.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The pumping action of the heart is too low. Considering the age, we can not do any surgical procedure. Drugs like digoxin can be tried. However overall prognosis will be poor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
