Hi, I am a 52 year old female and I noticed my throat felt like it was closing on one side. I looked in the mirror and saw a white knot on my tongue. It feels like there may be a couple going down my throat. Should I just gargle with warm salt water or should I contact my ENT tomorrow?
Welcome to HCM. Understanding your concern. As per your query white lump on the tongue could be Foreign body granuloma. This can be due to a small particle of food getting stuck inside the tongue and the tongue reacts to form a painful lump within. This is body's normal reaction. So there is nothing to panic . It could be due to tongue bite or oral thrush .
If the color over the lump is normal, she can take some anti-inflammatory medicines like Ibuprofen and the problem may be solved. consult oral pathologist for proper evaluation . Doctor may prescribe anti bacterial or anyi viral depending upon the dignosis . Most of the other lumps of the tongue are never painful and are benign at this age group.
