Suggest Treatment For A Wound On The Lip Post An Accident

I was hit on the lip last night and got my lip scraped up. I cleaned it up, not very well, and put ice on it right after it happened. This morning the swelling has gone down but now the large part of the scrape has a yellowish covering over it. I lightly washed it this morning but the yellow stuff is still there. Should I clean out the yellowish covering? Is the yellow stuff an infection?

Hi,

Well, the yellow covering can be infection while at times if there are no other symptoms it can be a healing tissue too.

So for now do not try to scrape or remove it and leave it as it is.

You can maintain aseptic conditions by applying an antiseptic ointment. Do cool compresses to reduce inflammation and swelling. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil.

In case if there is increase in swelling and discharge then a course of antibiotics can help in improvement.

For now follow the above-mentioned instructions.

Hope I have answered your query. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
