Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having occasional discomfort in my abdomen, right side, just under the bottom of my rib cage. Pain is not severe, but annoying. This has been off and on for a couple of months, and I cannot really relate it to anything, except perhaps after a meal (but not always). I am 58, female, menopausal, and just want to know if this warrants a visit to my doctor (who is hard to get in to see).
Hi. Sorry to hear about your complaints. Although a little more info may be needed to reach to a final diagnosis but lets work out some thing with the info available and the basic medical knowledge. Pain in right upper quadrent of abdomen is most commonly due to the pathalogies related to liver and gall bladder. Liver related problems can cause pain or discomfort in the right upper abdomen. Additionally there may be history of yellowness of eyes and body, fever and/or some times nausea and vomiting. Then come up the problems related to the gall bladder. Seeing upon your description and the history of pain/discomfort associated with Food intak. The possibility of having some problem with gall bladder/bile duct is highly suggestive most like a stone or obstruction. So my advice at the moment is to visit a radiologist to get an ultrasonography of abdomen done for confirmation of diagnosis and then you may need to see a surgeon for opinion of surgery if indicated after confirmation of diagnosis via usg. Wishing you best of health. Regards.
