Hi
Thanks for your query.
I appreciate your concern for your child who has accidentally consumed wall paint.
Since most of the wall paints contain lead which is a toxin to the to brain,
kidney,
liver, muscle,
gonads & bones hence an immediate treatment is the rule especially in children who can absorb as much as 50% of the ingested as compared to 10% in adults. The younger the child, the more harmful it can be.
I advise you to take your child to the ER of the nearest hospital for proper evaluation which may require estimation of
blood lead level and the treatment.
If the lead concentration is over 10 micrograms per deciliter (mcg/dL) is a definite concern.
In addition to supportive management like IV Fluids, etc he may need
Chelation (Calcium-disodium-
edetate) therapy - a procedure that can remove high levels of lead that have built up in the body over time.
Hope this answers your query.
