Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My boyfriend was cutting a package open with a knife and slipped and cut his thumb from the side of his nail down to the middle. The bone is what stopped the knife from cutting all the way through. He lost a lot of blood, but we didn't go to the ER because he didn't think he needed to go. He is lightheaded and has a headache and is getting sharp shooting pains on his thumb. He passed out about 2 hours after the cut occurred, and I forced him to eat something and drink water. What else should we do?
Hello, It is quite possible that he may be requiring stitches on the wound. Since it can be decided by visual inspection only, you must go to ER for a doctor to look at it and decide. Moreover he may need a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painnkillers for which he would need a prescription.I advise you to go to ER immediately. Till then you can give him ibuprofen 600 mg to take care of his pain. Thanks
