My sister 44 yrs old just left the ER here in Hawaii. She went in because of 2 ears aching, stuffy nose, coughing & headache. Upon them taking her vitals, her blood pressure was at 160 over 119. She had no temperature. Doctor saw her for 2 mins and gave her a 500 mg amocacillin before she left the ER. She s Home now and still misrable and sore. Being that her blood pressure was so high, wouldnt the doctor address that before releasing her? No xray or blood work was done. Should she go to another ER tonight?
Infections can sometimes cause an increase in blood pressure due to the body's stress response.
Though her blood pressure is high, it is not at a level that would be considered life threatening.
After her acute illness has resolved then her blood pressure can be rechecked to see if it is still high. If it is then she would need to start treatment for hypertension.
This would include lifestyle changes and medication.
I hope this helps
