Suggest Treatment For Acid Reflux And Excessive Burps
I have had a Barretts esophagus for 15 years and with the help of medication managed it quite well. however in the past two months if I try to sleep in my normal position (bed raised 4 inches) I get constant reflux I can only get any sleep by sitting up, also I am getting more wind and burping quite a lot. Is this a worstening of my condition or something else
I would suggest you to continue with the medications for gastric reflux along with dietary modifications. Always lie down on left side while sleeping and leave a gap of at least 45 minutes between meals and sleep. Since you have mentioned about Barrett's esophagus, regular follow up with investigations is required since this condition can increase the risk of esophageal cancer. I would recommend you to get a barium scan and histopathological examination may be required.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
