Suggest Treatment For Acne And Scarring

Hi my name is Skylar. So Im in my teen years, and have bad acne which has resulted in scarring. I went to a dermatologist and they gave me a cream called adapalene gel and benzoyl peroxide . They told me to apply the cream to my affected areas (upper chest, neck, face, and upper back) for 3 weeks. Then I will get surgery for the scarring. But anyways so Ive been using the product for a few days now, first time I used it it felt the same as usual, but my back was in a bit of pain. But on the 2nd or so night it started to hurt my face, especially the lower area of my face. On the 3rd night it was a tad better, but not much. That following day I began to get a rash on my neck. So I skipped the 4th night. The following day (today) it was bad. It hurt all day, obviously irritated, rash, spreading, red, painful, peeling, and at one point I itched it (not due to the cream) and it bled. After a long day I come home to have a shower, and it has got better. But Ive noticed my lower left area on my face is peeling very bad. And I think it now has a rash. And my neck is still irritated, but a lot better. So anyways, my question are: Do I use the cream again tonight? Should I try a moisturizer? Stop using the cream AT ALL? Call my doctor (tonight *late* or tomorrow)? Please help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you get rash due to use of the cream for acne, you should stop using it and should talk to your doctor.
Severe acne with scaring is treated well with oral retinoids. You may talk with your doctor on the possibility of using oral treatment as it is one of the preferred treatments when scarring is present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
