Suggest Treatment For Acne On Face

I'm a 34 year old Caucasian male. Had bad acne in my teens. I took accutaine and it went away. It has suddenly returned. Not nearly as bad, but still noticeable. What steps can I take to alleviate the problem. Likewise, is there something in my lifestyle that could be the underlying problem. I do take 1mg finasteride for hair-loss & also Ativan every couple days for anxiety.

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Acne can last for decades and well into 3rd or 4th decade of life.

Topical treatment can be in the form of Topical Antibacterials like Clindamycin gel, Topical Benzoyl peroxide gel for day time application and Topical Retinoids e.g Adapalene gel for night application.

Retinoids are comedolytic, antiinflammatory in nature. They would prevent new acne as well.

Oral antibiotics work well for inflammatory acne and bring about rapid control. Oral treatment includes antibiotics like doxycycline, azithromycin or minocycline for inflammatory acne.

I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist if you have inflammatory acne (papules and pustules) and get a prescription for oral antibiotics. Your doctor may consider a repeat course of Accutane, if required.

Along with the oral and topical treatment, you could take a few salicylic acid peeling sessions from your treating dermatologist, for faster improvement of acne

I would suggest that once your acne activity is controlled, you should still continue with a topical retinoid for maintenance because they are comedolytic and thus prevent new acne.

Regards
