My 14 yr. old daughter has been suffering from acne since she was 11. This week her skin got really dry and started to peel due to washing her face with products that contain salicylic acid. What can she use to relieve the dryness? She has been using the Ultra Repaid Moisturizer from First Aid Beauty but it doesn t really help. Thank you.
Thank you for query.Acne depend on hormonal effects, sebaceous gland secretion etc.It gradually reduces with age usually in both severity and appearance. So only good control can be achieved by regular face wash with cleanser, topical keratolytics like retinoic acid creams or salicylic acid creams and antibiotics like clindamycin, if necessary oral antibiotics.treat if any dandruff with ketoconazole shampoos. Some peeling does occur initially when you use keratolytics .Apply them only in night .If she does not get adjusted/ to it by a week or ten days with the moisturisers also or becomes severe you can shift to milder dose or change topical with consulting your dermatologist for management .else get back to us directly.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist
