Suggest Treatment For Acute Bronchitis

Hi about three weeks ago became fatigued, headache, body aches, low grade temperature. A week later started a wet cough, wheezing, tight chest, hard to breathe out completely. This breathing and coughing has been two weeks now. My mucous is not green anymore, just an opaque white, slightly buttery. I rattle at night when breathing out and cough...went to Urgent Care. Four more days left of 10 day supply of antibiotics, also prescribed inhalation spray called albuterol sulfate every 4 hr, sudafed, ibuprofen and a cough medication Benzonatate. The wheezing, rattling and coughing started to get better but two days ago I noticed I m feeling worse, extremely tired. I was diagnosed with acute bronchitis. Is this typical for this two last so long? Thank you, Sherrie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You seem to had allergy / viral infection which was secondarily infected to cause bronchitis. Bronchitis also needs self care like taking rest, avoid contact with known allergies (dust, smoke, fumes, pollens, some edibles, cosmetics all causing allergic symptoms), drink sufficient warm water, do gargles and inhale warm vapor. If there is persistent cold, continue medication strictly as advised.

The treatment given seems to be good. The weakness can be following antibiotics is mostly due to loss of vitamin B complex, it needs to be supplemented. Your infection seems to be reducing. Please reach your doctor for future care and medicines as per need.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
