Suggest Treatment For Alopeica Patches On Neck

Hello Doctor I have been diagnosed with Alopeica bracea. 2 small patches 1 cm diameter have appeared around neck. Dermotologist recommended me to take steroids if I am getting disturbed with these or else watch to see if these grow. Have given me medication to apply, Apologies but I have 2-3 queries. My query are- Should I take steroids, I dont want to take them unless it progresses to scalp or other areas in beard. And secondly, what is the initial stage when I can say it is getting cured? Lastly, And is it that recovery time depends on individual s own immune system?

Hi,

You seem to have alopecia areata. There may be complete bald patches on scalp. The lesion might occur suddenly. Exact cause is not known. It is considered to be autoimmune disorder. You consult dermatologist for firm diagnosis. Blood tests may be done to rule out internal disease like thyroid dysfunction.

I would like to suggest few hints to improve the condition...

- immunomodulator like levamisole 50 mg at night
- biotin tab 10 mg once a day
- trioxalen lotion to apply at night on bald patches
- mild steroid lotion to apply in morning on bald patches
- if no response in few weeks, intradermal steroid inj. in bald patches by expert dermatologist may be considered
- oral steroid should be avoided

I hope you may be improved in few weeks after taking treatment from expert dermatologist.
