Suggest Treatment For An Itchy Spot On The Ankle

I have a persistent itching in a very localized spot on the front of my ankle/foot. It seemed like a small sliver but there is nothing there. I also get this itching at the upper part of my knee of the same leg. Again, no apparent cause. The itch comes and goes in each and it has been happening over a couple of months. Any idea what could be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

For itching spots on ankles & legs, you can apply hydrocortisone ointments in the affected areas. You can take antihistamines to relieve.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a dermatologist to rule out pruritus, eczema, dermatitis, etc. You may need antibiotics/antivirals/ antifungals depending upon the diagnosis made.

Apply sunscreens & moisturizers, avoid wearing clothes made of synthetic fibers.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
