General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Enlarged red blood cells, also known as macrocytosis, can be caused by various factors such as vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, alcoholism, liver disease, thyroid dysfunction, and certain medications. It can also be hereditary in some cases. Even though you were told that you do not have anemia, enlarged red blood cells can still lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath.

If your blood work indicates macrocytosis, it is important to determine the underlying cause in order to receive appropriate treatment. If a vitamin B12 or folate deficiency is suspected, your healthcare provider may recommend supplements or dietary changes. If the cause is related to a medication, your healthcare provider may consider adjusting or changing your medication. Consult with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
