Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my cardiologist just told me that an echocardiogram showed i have an aneurysm of the aorta....44mm when normal is 40mm.....he is ordering a CT scan to double-check the results, but i didn t ask him what can be done about it if it corroborates with the previous test
Noted your history of Cardiologist telling you to have an aortic aneurysm that is 44 mm and the normal caliber is 40 mm. He has ordered CT scan to double check but not anything about management. As per the short history devoid of any medical symptoms I can understand that you have mild dilation, that is 4 mm larger than normal aorta. Surely the best opinion can be had from the Cardiac Surgeon and not the Cardiologist who is a medical expert. Since there is increase by 4 mm you may be kept under observation, medical management for the basic causes found like Diabetes, Hypertension and so on. You will required detailed tests of blood for Syphilis and such causative factors and if positive you will be given an appropriate management. Go to the root cause as its treatment is alsos required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
