Suggest Treatment For Anxiety

Hello. I have recently developed anxiety and have been prescribed by my family doctor Xanax 1MG pills. The thing is I have a small amount of asthma. I can't reach my doctor at the moment. Is it okay to take one or two Xanax without effecting the asthma or making it worse or have any bad interactions?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Xanax is Alprazolam and it is a benzodiazepine drug. Doses of 0.25-5 mg are commonly used. The dose you have been advised 1 mg is little high and you are a known case of asthma. Benzodizepines are known to result in respiratory depression so as per my opinion you the drug dose should not be taken because it may result in bronchoconstriction. If you have access to your doctor then you can discuss for some other relatively safer benzodiazepine drug like Etizolam, Oxazepam. If symptoms persist then consult a psychiatrist for treatment for medicines like SSRIs as Fluoxetine, Paroxetine.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
