Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello Welcome to HCM

First of all I would like to tell you that there is no need to embarrassed. You are having these complaints because of anxiety disorder with claustrophobia and if people laugh on its their fault and not yours.

You have complaints like not able to go out in crowded places, even thinking about such situations cause discomfort and palpitations. Even in eating places you have anxiety attacks and tremors. You have started avoiding such places and this has cause significant impairment in your life. All these symptoms are part of Claustrophobia. This is a type of anxiety disorder in which individual have intense fear of crowds and develop significant anxiety and panic in abnormal situations.

I would advise you to consult a Psychiatrist for expert opinion. Medicines like Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) as Escitalopram, Fluoxetine etc are very useful in such situations and have proven results.

Apart from medicines non-medicinal treatment in form of Behavior therapy is equally efficacious. It includes systematic desensitization. In this method individual is exposed to increasing grades of anxiety stimulus starting from zero to maximum anxiety provoking. With time anxiety decreases and individuals learn to keep themselves relaxed.

Hope this helps you, thanks
