Suggest Treatment For Anxiety

I have had the same recurring thought for a year and a half. It is a disturbing thought of an issue I had with someone at a past job. The constant thought is always in my head and causes a lot of anxiety. What is the best way to get rid of this thought and move on?

Thanks for writing to us,

Repetitive thoughts could be of two types. One could be rumination and brooding over an issue more than it is necessary that is usually seen in depressive illnesses. The other is an obsession where a thought is recurring and intrusive and does not stop even on trying to, and hence causes anxiety, it may accompanied by a compulsion to carry out an act to stop the thought or neutralize it. The intensity of the problem will have to be assessed by a professional in order to say whether it is pathological or normal. A consultation with a psychiatrist/psychologist would help you solve the problem.
