Suggest Treatment For Back Pain Due To Bulging Disc

I have a bulging disc in the lower back causing me to be in bed more than out...I'm taking physical therapy but it really does not help... My orthopedic surgeon doctor suggest i start taking shots in the back but my sister who use to take the shots states, it only helps for a short period of time...What else can i do..The pain is so severe at times, it shoots down my leg & my leg gives out...
