Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had both my knees replaced in the last year and a half. When I got my first one done I had some back pain and now that I have had the second one done I still have back pain and it is worse. It is like an ache in the middle of my back and towards my right side. I have no trouble walking, I walk a couple miles each day when the weather is good. It is annoying and if I take tylenol it does not affect the pain.
The back pain is very less likely related to the knee replacement. With age the bones start to weaken so do the vertebrae. I would suggest you visit a rheumatologist regarding this. He might advice you an MRI scan to see if there is any nerve compression or degeneration that is causing the pain. Pain killers like Ibuprofen help if taken adequate and appropriate dose. Simple exercises under physiotherapist’s guidance will also be helpful.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
