Suggest Treatment For Big Bumps In The Arm Pit

I had a surgery on December 30 and contracted a staph infection. I have been on three different antibiotics since and am about to finish the third which is doxy. I had a breast reduction surgery and the staph showed up in the form of big knots in my arm pits. I am scheduled to see an infectious disease specialist in a couple of weeks. I read somewhere that staph can cause arthritic conditions. I have had pain in my heels since all of this came about and before I read about staph affecting joints and such, I thought it was Plantar fasciitis. I am wondering now if this pain could be caused by this long infection. My heels hurt pretty badly when I get up to walk and sometimes when I am not on my feet. What are your thoughts on this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of breast reduction surgery, development of staph infection, lumps in armpit, pain in heel which you want to know whether plantar fascitis or due to staph infection as you have read somewhere.
The commonest cause of pain in heel is plantar fascitis and can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon for proper clinical examination and X-ray or MRI to confirm. Once confirmed please take further prescription based treatment.
Anti-inflammatory medicines and foot bath in warm supersaturated saline water helps a lot.
Adjust shoes and insoles as suitable for foot.
The big bumps in armpit are due to lymph node enlargement due to bacterial infection and you are already under treatment. Please continue it.
Ultrasonography of the armpit and FNAC of the lymph node, send the sample for gram staining, culture and sensitivity; blood culture and sensitivity help a lot a some cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
