Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has been diagnosed with Bi Polar disorder. the doctor has her on Cymbalta, Lamital, and Lithium. Serroquel for sleep. alprazalom for anxiety. She feels horrible. she can barely function. she cannot get out of bed. she is not motivated and finds joy in nothing. The doctor increased the Cymbalta to 120mg per day on June 30, 2015. she has seen no improvement. this has literally been going on for over a year. I need to know how to help her. she is in bed most days.
I went through your details. Please understand, there are many mental aspects for bipolar disorder. There will be anxiety, depression, euphoria, lethargy, delusions, illusions, general weakness and lack of interest and motivation. You already know that bipolar disorder is a neuro chemical disorder and therefore the patient needs continuous psychiatric treatment. Only other help the family members can provide is to be patient and to try and motivate the patient as much as possible. In that motivation aspect, you can take the help of a psychologist. Psychotherapy and life style changes may also help. But the inherent factor is, bipolar needs life long treatment. Patient should learn to manage the symptoms and do normal household jobs with the help of psychologist intervention.
