Psychiatrist 's  Response
You should consult a psychiatrist since your GP suspects that you have bipolar disorder and your online research also makes you think the same.
Bipolar disorder is a biological disorder (biochemical changes in your brain) that manifests with psychological symptoms. It is also influenced by your life-style, thinking and behavior.
Your psychiatrist will evaluate you; take your past, personal and family history; may ask a few blood tests; make diagnosis.
If your psychiatrist makes a diagnosis of Bipolar disorder, he/she will counsel you about your illness. He/she may prescribe medicines and may also suggest a therapy such as cognitive behavior therapy. With proper treatment, Bipolar patients can live a normal, peaceful, productive, harmonious life.

Hi,

Online tests are not enough to make a psychiatric diagnosis. In my opinion, you should try to arrange for a consultation with a psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis. Detailed history from you and your family members with a mental status examination will be needed.

Best wishes.

Psychiatrist Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi's  Response
Hello
Welcome to HCM

You have self diagnosed yourself from online tests. I would advise you to visit a psychiatrist for confirmation of psychosis. Bipolar disorder is a type of mood disorder which is characterised by manic symptoms or manic and depressive symptoms. Treatment of bipolar disorder includes mood stabilisers and anti-depressants drugs.

Mood stabilisers are Sodium Valproate, Carbamazepine, low dose antipsychotics like Olanzapine, Qutiapine etc drugs.

Anti-depressants that can be used in depression with bipolar disorder are commonly Lamotrigine some times fluoxetine.

The drugs usually result in improvement in about 6-8 weeks but maintenance treatment is continued even after symptomatic relief.

Consult your psychiatrist for treatment.

Thanks
