Suggest Treatment For Bladder Infection Lasting More Than 2 Weeks

I have had a bladder infection for more then the last 2 weeks. Usually, if I feel one coming on I drink plenty of water and cranberry juice and it will go away. However, I have had this one for over two weeks, and due to my class schedule was unable to contact my doctor. Since then she has had me on cefuroxime with no results. I met with her on Friday and she gave me Bactrim and I still have discomfort going to the bathroom. I plan on calling her first thing in the morning, but wanted to know what to expect. I do not want to take Cipro as I had a friend that had horrible reactions. What should I expect?

Hi,

I am greatly concerned about your problem. Since you have taken cefuroxime and Bactrim and you still have the problem I think you should have your urine cultures done after 3 days of stopping antibiotics.

Meanwhile, you keep yourself well hydrated and continue using cranberry juice.

Urine culture studies will tell us whether you have bacterial infection or now and which antibiotic is sensitive to it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
