Suggest Treatment For Blisters And Fluid Discharge After Nail Removal

Hi, I recently had full nail removal surgery on both big toes. On on of the toes I have now got a cluster of blisters (upper toe, on the bit between the foot and the nailbed), which have been itching for days and leak clear fluid. Some of the ones that popped have become small wounds but the blisters keep spreading and I worry they might get into the nailbed, which is still healing from the removal surgery. What is this?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Judging from the history, I would keep a possibility of Allergic Contact Dermatitis (ACD) to an antiseptic solution e.g betadine solution Or topical cream that you may have been using post-procedure. ACD is likely because the condition is itchy and it started immediately after surgery.
I have seen a lot of cases of ACD to betadine solution which is commonly used pre-operatively for antisepsis and post-operatively for wound cleaning and dressing.
If I was the treating doctor I would have tried to find the implicating factor that would be causing allergy.
Specific treatment for ACD would be twice daily application of a potent steroid + antibiotic combination cream.
I would have also started you empirically on oral antibiotic since there is a chances that the dermatitis may become secondarily infected.
An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine would provide you symptomatic relief from itching.

Regards
