Hello! I'm in the Boston area fairing this storm and while my friend was shoveling got scratched with a branch on her eye ball. The eye has begun to swell --it's been about 2 hours--and when she covers her other eye, her vision is somewhat blurred. When I look at her eye, there is clearly a large sized scratch right over the pupil. It is not bleeding and does not seem very deep. She's wondering if she should go to the ER, or if there is something over the counter she could buy for it since we don't know how serious it is. GIven the weather conditions, there's a travel ban, so we would prefer not going out if not necessary. Thank you!
eye doctor should examine and reason of blurred vision should be diagnosed. it can ve corneal errosion, your assesment of scrach over pupil may not be corect.it can be confirmed by slit lamp examination. scratch over cornea if active to be treated as corneal ulcer. inyour case other symptoms like pain photophobia, cogestion are absent. staining can confirm it. now refraction should be done and if defect detected should be corected. acomodation should betested. ocular movment tobe noted. cover test to detect phoria.
