Hi,
The
boils on the buttocks are pus filled skin infections, that usually develop around the hair follicles. They can occur anywhere, but very frequent on buttocks. These are usually bacterial infections, frequently caused by a bacteria
staphylococcus aureus. Other type of bacteria can also cause this infection, if present in hair follicles. Many a time recurrence of boils at buttocks is there again and again.
Depending on the size, location and other health concerns, warm compresses and close observation is first line of treatment. However, if the boil is getting larger, then
incision and drainage is required. Usually the healing in such cases is without the need of anti-biotic even after incision and drainage. However, if infection is severe, rapidly growing and spreading into surrounding tissues, antibiotic is usually necessary under guidance of your doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
