Suggest Treatment For Bone Spurs, Arthritis And Swollen Feet

Ok, I am a 54 yr.old female. Have recently like a month ago had surgery on my foot. Bone spurs and arthritis between joint of big toe. Have had flu-like symptoms for just as long it seems. Foot is still swollen and red. wound has closed up nicely but red. I feel flushed at times and last week my face swelled up and had fever 100.6. Taking Baiactrum ( anti-biotic) ( went to immediate care) I do have a follow up apt with Orthopedic surgeon on Weds. My sister scaring me saying it could be MRSA. How long does it take for foot to heal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from bone spurs, arthritis and swollen feet. As bone spur grows, it may irritate surrounding tissues causing pain, inflammation and swelling. Rest and cold compression can give relief. you can take anti inflammatory medications for relief. You are advised to include anti inflammatory food in your regular diet. It will help to reduce pain naturally.

Physical therapy, massage therapy, exercises under observation and cortisone injections may be helpful. Arthritis can also cause swollen feet. Other medical conditions that can cause swollen feet are water retention, kidney dysfunction, thyroid problem, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get all required blood and imaging tests done so that treatment can be done accordingly. Stay away from addictions if any. Restrict high salt and high carbohydrate intake.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Probable reasons for your foot swelling are wound infection, compartmental syndrome, cellulitis, and lymphedema. Your foot needs detailed clinical examination and few tests if necessary. Kindly contact your orthopedic surgeon for a specific diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

For now you can take the following measures for pain relief:
1) Antibiotic Amoxicillin clavulanate 500/125mg is to be taken daily thrice daily for 5 days.
2) Tab. Chymoral forte twice daily for 5 days.
3) Tab. Paracetamol twice daily for 5 days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
