Suggest Treatment For Breathing Difficulty While Lying Down
Hi Sir, I am 29 years old and having DNS from my school days. The deviation has increased now and seems to be harder now. From last 3-4 years, I am having difficulty in breathing while lying down, especially during night and its not easy to sleep when I suffer from cold. I consulted an ENT in Bangalore and he suggested surgery as the only solution. He told I have a triangular deviated septum in my right nostril and asked to take a CT scan for further analysis. Do we really need to take a CT scan prior to this surgery for any clarifications? Also, I often used to get headache near my left eye mostly. Is it anyway related to DNS? Expecting a detailed answer for the above queries. Thanks in advance.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Deviated nasal septum causes headache which may be mild to severe. If you are having nasal obstruction specially during sleep ,you better go for surgery. Septoplasty is the name of surgery. Sometimes along with deviated nasal septum there may be other causes for nasal obstruction and breathing problem. This is why your surgeon has advised to do a CT scan of nose. Gross deviated nasal septum may cause obstructive sleep apnea. I will advice you to go for surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
