Suggest Treatment For Breathing From Mouth And Nasal Drip

My son has suffered from a stuffy nose from about 5 months old. He is now 13 months. He breathes through his mouth and has nasal drip on and off. No doctor has really been concerned about his colds. He has been on Penicillian (sp?) twice for an ear infection when he was 10 months old and then again at 11 months old. Other than that, he has had no medication (except for vaccines). We saw an ENT today and he thinks he should have his adenoid removed and scheduled surgery in 4 weeks. Is this common to suggest surgery before trying antibiotics??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms are typical of adenoid. Surgery will be the treatment of choice as there is multiple attacks of symptoms. If you delay the surgery there is high chances for unwanted complications.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
