Suggest Treatment For Breathing Issues While On Prednisone
I am under the care of a pulmonologist and an ENT because I am having serious problems breathing. My sinuses have been 100% cleared out, and now on prednisone, but the slightest exertion is leaving me gasping for breath. I have an emergency Ventilin inhaler (which doesn t seem to help) , am on 4 puffs twice a day of Qvar, but I am not seeing improvement. I have never smoke a cigarette in my life, have perhaps half a glass of wine per week, eat healthfully, not great at exercise but do yoga therapy. Slightly elevated eosoniphils. Any ideas?
All your symptoms are suggestive of possible bronchial asthma, for which you are being treated with potent anti-inflammatories like prednisone; bronchodilatator (ventolin) and corticosteroid puffs (Qvar).
Slightly elevated eosinophils are confirming this pulmonary problem (most probably asthma). Although you see not enough improvement, should continue following the advice as given by your pulmonologist and ENT specialist.
I advise sleeping with raised head to ease breathing. Apply vapour rub on chest and back at bedtime. Increase fluids intake (especially plain water with oral rehydration salts, tea, etc).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
