Suggest Treatment For Broken Sesamoid Bone

I have a broken sesamoid bone in my right foot (the one closest to the outside of my foot). I have been wearing a walking boot for 8 weeks and have been on crutches for 6 weeks. Not much improvement. I am scheduled to have the bone removed next week (the bone is in pieces and continues to cause me pain). The doctor says that he will try to tighten up a tendon to help decrease the risk for bunions in the future. Any thoughts about this and any suggestions to help with the recovery?
