Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis And Acid Reflux

I have had 20+ years of bronchitis. In November, I started having a cough, sometimes moist. We thought it was bronchitis. I finished a round of antibiotics and started to feel better, but the cycle repeats. Now in April, I still have the couch, but it is more an itching cough. I had a PFT which revealed some asthma. The pulmonologist thinks the cough is most likely acid reflux. (This was two weeks ago.) He increased the Prilosec to 40md bid. Instructed me to limit or eliminate carbonation and caffeine. I have done this, but I still have my cough. The other possibily is that I may be having a reaction to the lisonopril which I was also started in November. I take numerous medications for low potassium, low thyroid, bi-polar, depression, high blood pressure, GERD, and insomnia. I am thinking that this more a reaction to the lisonopril and not acid reflux. I am considering skipping my dose on lisonopril tonight as an experiment to see if the coughing eases. Any thoughts?

Hi,

I passed carefully through your question and agree with you on the fact that a cough could be related to Lisinopril, as it is well known that a cough is the most common adverse effect related to this drug.

For this reason, I would recommend switching from Lisinopril to an ARB (Losartan, Valsartan, etc.)

You should discuss with your doctor on the above options.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ilir Sharka,
