Suggest Treatment For Bruise And Swelling On Jaw

Hello, Last year my daughter was hit in the face by a seesaw. She had a bruise and swelling and a knot in her jaw. The bruising and swelling went away but the knot did not for a long time. I took her to a doctor who said it was probably a contusion and would go away eventually. Later, she lost a tooth on that side of her face right where the seesaw hit her. The tooth had died. She has not had any problems of pain or numbness but there is an indention in her face now and this has been over a year ago. Do you think I should take her back to the doctor for xrays?

Hello,

I understand your concern. It is possible that the bone in the injured area was injured causing minor crack or fracture that was filled with blood clot producing the knot and now showing indentation as the blood clot resolved.

It might have happened while extracting the tooth too over the side as weakened bones tend to crack or fracture during tooth extraction. As it has been over the year now, the bone may have malunited not causing any symptoms such as swelling or pain.

Thus, my advise to you is to visit an oral & maxillofacial surgeon for the clinical examination of the injured area along with investigations such as x-ray and CT Scan. Based on the test results, diagnosis can be made and treatment can be started.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your daughter good recovery.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
