Suggest Treatment For Bruise On Leg Along With Swelling

Hi. About 3 years ago, I fell down a flight of stairs and injured the front, lower part of my leg. Right above my ankle and top of my foot. I had a huge bruise for a long time. When it finally went away, there was a rather large, and very hard lump under my skin. And its caused my ankle to have a swollen spot, that buldges out above my ankle. It looks like it s permanently swollen. It doesn t hurt at all, but looks awful and sometimes affects how I walk. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Well, there are several possible causes. This may be a beginning of leg cellulitis which is inflammation of subcutaneous tissues and may develop into diabetic foot or even diabetic gangrene so any swelling, redness or pain in legs in someone who has diabetes should be evaluated by medical professionals since antibiotics may have to be started as soon as possible to prevent spreading of infection.

He should do at least basic blood tests and blood sugar to see if there is a significant infection or not. Other causes include deep vein thrombosis or lymphedema and these should be checked with an ultrasound exam.
