Suggest Treatment For Bruise On The Middle Finger

I sometimes lose circulation in my left index finger from the middle knuckle to the tip. When this happens my finger looks like a bruise and goes numb and cold but only from the middle to the tip! I have to keep twisting and rubbing it to get it to go back to normal and this usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. it seems to be getting more frequent.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of middle finger getting numb and bruised off and on on its own and gets back to normal within 5 to 10 minutes.
This is now a frequent phenomenon.
This is very typical and may need a detailed study to know the cause.
Since only one finger that too only distal part is being affected the cause can most probably local like problem with arterial supply or so.
This can be diagnosed by careful clinical evaluation bya a vascular surgeon, may need arteriography or color doppler studies.
Or this can be a beginning of some granulomatous disease which needs further evalaution under the guidanc of a Rheumatologist.
Once the cause is found the treatment will be specific.
Till then you may be given the following prescription based medications.
Blood thinner.
Medicatoins working on autonimc nervous system to avoid vessel spasms.
Take care to avoid injury to the fingers.
Avoid too hot and too cold atmosphere.
Avoid dehydration.
Further management as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
