Suggest Treatment For Bruise-type Of Pain In Tailbone Area

I was sitting in a chair with my legs and feet propped up on the table reading a book for a couple of hours about 3 weeks ago; when I stood, I immediately got this bruise-type of pain in my tailbone area ; I kept waiting for it to go away but it is now hurting so bad that I can hardly sit, stand, or walk without pain; do I need to follow up with my doc or will it get better on its own?

Hi,

It is common to have pain in coccyx area after prolonged sitting, especially with legs propped up. Try taking analgesics like ibuprofen (after food) for 3 days. Also, avoid prolonged sitting (walk ups in between), sit with legs down, use a soft cushion over there, and avoid tight clothing like jeans. Applying ice pack also might help. See your doctor if these measures are not helping in 3-5 days.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
