Suggest Treatment For Bruising And Swelling After Injury On Knee

Hello, I scrapped up my knee sliding during a softball game about 4 days ago. I showered that night and then cleaned it with IPO. I ve only wore shorts since then because it is very uncomfortable to wear pants with the scrape. It s still pussing and has red irritable areas around the scrape. Should I be worried about an infection? Is it better to have the scrape covered or uncovered?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to the injury. The wound may be infected and need proper treatment. I suggest to clean it with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with an antibiotic cream. It is better to be covered with a sterile bandage to prevent further infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
