Suggest Treatment For Bug Bite In Eye

My mom was riding on a ranger when she then got a bug in her eye at a fast speed and the bug sung/bit her eye in the process. And now it s been 8 days since it happened and her eye has a spot of blood in the side of her eye and the blood is spreading slowly at the process. I wanted to know if it s severe or if it needs only some eye drops for her eye at the meantime?

Hello,

Your mom is suffering from bug bite in the eye. Its 8 days and her eyes has a spot of blood that is spreading slowly. She is suggested to get clinically examined by an Eye Specialist before the symptoms get worse. She can take non sedating antihistamine, one stat to help reduce the symptoms of allergy. If pain or swelling she can take acetaminophen, one SOS when required.

Her treatment will depend on the pathology detected. She will be given conservative treatment and eye drops if required to prevent any infection. Cool compress may help. She should avoid going outdoors for a couple of days to avoid dust, smoke, animal dander, etc. She should avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
