Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a bump on my lower lip inside my mouth and its really been bothering me, Ive had it for about 2 weeks, it been changing colors lately, one day its pink, then red, then purple. I've been trying to figure out what it is, ive tried swishing saltwater in my mouth but that hasn't worked either.
Thanks for your query . The bump you mention in query is clearly a 'MUCOCELE' . Mucocele is a accumulation of saliva in clogged duct of salivary gland . The blockage occur due tp a stone or a foreign body .
This is usually harmless but need to be treated . It usually go away without any treatment in few days .
If it persist then there are many treatment options available .
I would suggest you to consult dentist or oral surgeon for proper evaluation and to rule out other causes like hematoma , cold sore or herpes.
Doctor may give incision and remove it under the local anesthesia or may perform marsupialization and prescribe antibiotics .
As per your complain a small painless bump on the inner surface of lower lip can be due to trauma to the lip leading to trauma to the minor salivary glands or their ducts due to which there is spillage of its contents into the soft tissues and formation of a small bump which can range from pink to bluish in colour..
It is mostly self resolving condition and do not require any treatment as the mucocele rupture by itself and spills its contents into the mouth and heals gradually..
In case it does not heal surgical removal is done..
In case if the lump is very small a non surgical Laser ablation technique can be done to remove the mucocele..
For now you should do concentrated salt water rinses atleast 3 to 4 times daily..
Hope this information helps..
