Suggest Treatment For Bumps On Scalp While Recovering From Allergic Dermatitis

I recently(in March) began recovering from an allergic dermatitis, caused by mold. I noted at that time I was starting to get bumps on my head.MD said to use a tar shampoo. Did not start that immediately. Began to get painful tootsie rolls structures on my head, these rolls contained scales. They started to become numerous, usually only located on the back of my head. Having a lot of trouble controlling them even with the shampoo. I ve had several episodes where these scales have overwhelmed ( spewing from my scalp by coming through the skin) and then going down my back and into the space between the epidermis &dermis. Eventually they come to the surface and can be peeled off. Help I don t know what to do.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You appear to be having seborrhoeic dermatitis over your scalp. It is a fungal infection which can be cured however it may recur frequently. I would advise you to use shampoos / lotions containing antifungal agents like Selenium Sulfide or Terbinafine or any other antifungal agent almost every alternate days in starting for about 15 days and thereafter gradually twice a week for another 15 days and finally once a week for next 3 months.

In addition to this, you must keep the scalp healthy and moist avoiding collection of dead skin or dirt or grease. Please avoid scratching and peeling off the dead skin. Keep the skin as airy as much as possible. Avoid junk food as much as possible, it helps.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
