Suggest Treatment For Burning, Bruised Rash Near Ear And Swollen Outer Ear

I have a very swollen (hard) gland that goes from the back of my ear, down into my neck, not very painful. My outer ear is red and swollen, no pain inside. I feel like I have a burning, bruised rash that started behind my ear and now goes up to my temple and down around the bottom of my hairline. I now have a very bad headache. Not sure if I have a fever, if I do it s very low grade.Not sure if I need treatment now, or if it can wait .Thank you for your time and advice.Cheryl

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Swollen and painful gland behind the ear down into the neck could be due to enlarged and inflamed lymph node.
Red and swelling on outer ear appears to be due to bacterial infection and this has caused painful enlargement of the gland behind the ear.
I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist for clinical assessment of the ear and the swollen gland.
A rash behind the ear also needs to be clinically assessed.
Rash is usually associated with viral infection.
Headache and fever (if any) is supposedly associated with ear infection.
Treatment will depend on type of infection - viral or bacterial.
In the meanwhile you may take pain killer and give hot fomentation to the area for symptomatic relief.
